Safety surfaces – planning notes

What the green surface is

The green surface under a product comes from one of two sources; the item's badge says which:

  • Producer's drawing (Buglo): the manufacturer's own safety drawing (DWG), drawn to scale and placed on the 3D model by geometric fit.
  • Model surface (Cemer): a ground outline taken from the manufacturer's 3D model. "Model surface · drawing match" means it matches the manufacturer's safety-area drawing; "Model surface · unconfirmed" means it has NOT been confirmed as a safety area.

For these products this tool does not calculate safety zones. Products with neither show an amber dashed outline of the model footprint and the badge "No producer safety surface". For swings and ziplines the drawing may show the seat impact area only.

Each item names its source level:

  • L1 Producer drawing, placed by geometric fit (may add "orientation to be confirmed" or "catalogue size differs").
  • L2 Producer drawing, outline not labelled: awaiting producer confirmation. No surface is drawn.
  • L3 No producer safety drawing matched. The producer's catalogue safety size and free fall height are quoted as text only; nothing is drawn.

For L2 and L3 items, space needs and overlaps are not checked: take them from the producer's documentation.

Planning aid only: nothing in this tool is a conformity check or confirms compliance with EN 1176 / EN 1177.

What the warnings mean

  • Red = drawn outlines or model footprints overlap (geometric check)
  • Amber/orange = an outline or footprint crosses the plot edge (a no-surface product's dashed outline turns orange; plain amber dashes only mean "no producer surface")

These are geometric checks of the drawn outlines only. Whether a given overlap is acceptable under EN 1176 depends on the equipment types and must be checked in the manufacturer's documentation.

Always check

  • Free-fall height, impact area and impact-absorbing surfacing per the manufacturer's documentation (EN 1176 / EN 1177)
  • Installation and the final layout by a competent inspector
